Dr. Stefan Dreesmann, Team Leader of the project "German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Agriculture" presented on this topic at this year`s Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) - Forum in Halle (Germany) last Friday.
As one presentation in the session "Opportunities and challenges for European agriculture and rural development in the context of Ukraine`s EU integration". The Ukrainian experts Olena Kovalova, Mariia Bogonos , Oleksandra Avramenko and Oleksandr Zhemoyda spoke before him on this topic. They informed the present scientists from all over the world at this session about the current situation of agriculture in Ukraine in the context of integration into the EU. The session was moderated by Heinz Strubenhoff. The 5 presentations were followed by a lively discussion.
The presentation of Dr. Dreesmann ended with the following conclusions:
- EU organic farming requirements are already being implemented in Ukraine by EU organic certified farms
- Ukraine is already in the process of establishing a control system based on the EU organic law through its own organic farming legislation
- Thanks to its natural conditions, strong agricultural knowledge and the engagement of active farmers and organizations, there is great potential for organic farming in Ukraine
- The organic farming activities in Ukraine are fully in line with the EU's ideas on the Green Deal.
