Since August of this year, farms and companies in Ukraine have been able to obtain certification in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On Basic Principles and Requirements for Organic Production, Circulation and Labelling of Organic Products". The Ukrainian government has also developed its own logo for this purpose. All farms certified under this law are registered in a database maintained by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

A campaign to help Ukrainian organic farms finance their organic farming certificate according to the Organic Ukrainian law was successfully completed in December. The support was specifically aimed at small and medium-sized organic farms in Ukraine. According to the results of the assessment, 75 small and medium-sized producers of organic crop, livestock and beekeeping products in Ukraine received compensation for the cost of organic certification. The funding was provided by the "German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Agriculture (COA)" project. The project is funded by the German Ministry of Food and Agriculture. The partner of the COA project in making the relevant payments to the organic operators is the Federation of the Organic Movement Ukraine.

"We are very pleased that, beginning this year, organic producers can now also be certified in accordance with the Organic Law of Ukraine. And that it was possible so quickly to support so many companies in this difficult situation to get the certificate," said Dr Stefan Dreesmann, head of the German-Ukrainian project.

This competition was announced in October 2023 in order to accelerate the process of implementation of this Law and create favourable conditions for organic producers to use paragraph 3 of the Transitional Provisions of this Law. That means in practice to reduce the transition period for organic operators which are already engaged in organic production in accordance with the legislation of the European Union.

It should be noted that in July-September 2023, "German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Agriculture" (COA) also provided support to organic operators in Ukraine by partially compensating the cost of organic certification in accordance with the requirements of European Union legislation for a total amount of more than 90.000 Euro.Collage 3
