Due to the ongoing Russian attacks, there are repeated power outages in Ukraine. This also affects agricultural businesses and processors of agricultural products. Especially in the east and south of Ukraine.
In recent months, numerous large generators have been purchased with funding from the German government and are gradually being handed over to the affected farms in the affected oblasts. Numerous organic operators are also affected by these power outages. A total of 25 of these organic operators in 9 Ukrainian oblasts in the east and south of Ukraine have also received large generators from this German government aid programme in recent months. The selection of these 25 organic operators, including continuous communication with all these operators, was carried out in close coordination with the "German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Agriculture" project. The project is funded by the German Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
This week, the last 13 large generators were handed over to the organic operators. The German embassy has published the following press release:
“The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), with funding from the German government, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, continues to provide generators to Ukrainian farmers in eastern and southern Ukraine to help them withstand power outages and maintain production.
This week, 13 organic enterprises and two agricultural universities received generators with a capacity of 25-80 kW to serve as a backup source of electricity in case of infrastructure damage or power outages. The selection of the beneficiary companies was carried out in close coordination with the German-Ukrainian Cooperation Project in Organic Agriculture.
"Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 91 businesses have already received generators with a capacity of 25-80 kW to support critical food systems," added Pierre Vauthier, head of the FAO office in Ukraine. - "These are bakeries, dairies, meat processing plants, and now organic farmers and agricultural universities. We will continue to help Ukrainian agricultural producers with the most necessary resources, such as generators, seeds and grain storage facilities, to avoid the closure of agricultural enterprises and support small farmers in maintaining production."
A total of 160 more generators are to be distributed by the end of the year to support the production of bread, milk and livestock products and to provide electricity to food storage warehouses.”
